Based on current events there is no better time to introduce a system where police officers are expected to be wearing body cameras at all times, in the UK there is currently the case of a police officer who arrested, murdered and burnt an innocent woman, how the police can rebuild trust with the public is going to require heads to roll and procedures to be changed. There is also the case of George Floyd in the US, who without that video footage would have been another statistic. We already live in a surveillance state and making police offices wear body cameras would make the public safer. It can also provide evidence against people, meaning that the police have greater immediate authority as there is no escaping video evidence.

Requiring body cameras to be worn by all police would be beneficial in both the UK and US, in the UK we already have a big brother state so why not impose it on the police, and the US has far too many killed whilst being apprehended.

The US is a crazy enough place to have it broadcast live, the videos could also be used to train both the public and the police on how to do a ‘graceful’ arrest on both ends of the enforcement experience in a country where irresponsible gun ownership is readily encouraged. But to be fair the public needs those guns to protect themselves from their government.

The policies and procedures of the police are of an esoteric nature, every process recorded and followed, creating transparent accountability of those they police. Having police wear cameras would open up a security nightmare for them, as all interactions with the public would be recorded, there would be a sound recording of all of their interactions with the public. This is an issue for them because it would highlight police training procedures in how they are trained to interact we people. With a freedom of information request, it is possible for recordings to be released to the general public (within reason), this is something the police would oppose as it defines new lines of accountability.

TLDR; Requiring body cameras to be worn by all police would be beneficial in both the UK and US, in the UK we already have a big brother state so why not impose it on the police, and the US has far too many killed whilst being apprehended.
